All lanterns are made by first rolling out slabs of clay with a rolling pin. Then pieces are cut, textured, and cut outs made, as each individual piece requires. Building then begins! 

 

Some lanterns are designed to have no glass inside, some with a piece of glass for each of the 3 sides with cutouts and some designed to hold a stained glass design which will be made after the piece has been fired. Others rely on cut-outs alone to let the light shine without the addition of stained glass.

 

The back of each of these is left partially open to hold battery operated fairy lights or an electric candle. They are about 12 to 13 inches high. While I start with a basic pattern of 4 walls and a roof, I let my imagination go as I add the details!
